FAQs

  • What Is the StewardTech Turbine?
    • The StewardTech Turbine is a Centrifugal Turbine with a bit of a difference:. Rather than use fluid obstruction or pressure differential to extract energy, the StewardTech Turbine extracts energy by managing fluid flow.
  • How Does the StewardTech Turbine Differ from Other Turbines?
    • In the StewardTech Turbine, the energy control and collection structures are designed and arranged so that every part of the rotor can interact with every part of the working fluid multiple times. This sets up a recursive energy extraction protocol such that a higher and more efficient energy extraction can occur in a much smaller footprint. It also creates a long cycle turbine in a compact space, meaning that the working fluid is kept from exhausting until the maximum energy has been extracted from it.
  • What Industries Does The StewardTech Turbine Stand Ready to Disrupt?
    • Transportation
      • Transportation is where the StewardTech Turbine truly shines brightest. Whether it is in replacing noisy, inefficient and overly complex piston engines, thirsty gas turbines, or loud, wasteful aircraft engines, the StewardTech Turbine is an idea whose time has come. The StewardTech Turbine will disrupt the entire Transportation market, From scooters to automobiles, planes, ships and even locomotives. Every phase and mode of motorized Transportation will be improved.
    • Renewable Energy Production
      • Wind Turbines
        • Whether you need a wind turbine that you can carry with you, one that can be fitted into semi-permanent fixtures like gazebos or deer stands, or permanently located wind turbines for homes, office buildings or even wind farms, the StewardTech turbine can scale to meet your wind power needs.
      • Tidal Turbines
        • The StewardTech Turbine can easily be configured for use in tidal applications, and can be used in moving bodies of water from streams to oceans.
    • Traditional Energy Production
      • In traditional power plants, the StewardTech Turbine represents a more compact, energy-dense solution than most typical steam turbines.
  • What Are Some of the Common Applications for the StewardTech Turbine?
    • Transportation
      • Land Transportation
        • One of the most ideal uses of the StewardTech Turbine is as a range extender for cars with electric motors. This way, you can greatly reduce, or even eliminate the batteries used in these vehicles, since a recharge is always on tap without needing to stop. This will also cut down on the risk of fire or explosion from electric vehicles, as well as reducing the quantity of Rare Earth Metals used to make the batteries, which will also greatly reduce the use of destructive mining methods used to obtain these materials. So the StewardTech Turbine can make electric motors even greener and more renewable. However, that is far from the only way that the StewardTech Turbine can make our lives greener through efficiency. Our goal is to eventually replace every piston engine on the planet with a StewardTech Turbine. The StewardTech Turbine is more compact and efficient than the piston engines it will replace. Further, it is cheaper to build, fuel and run than piston engines, while simultaneously having fewer moving parts than a typical piston engine. So at every stage of its life, it is a better, greener choice than piston engines. And the turbine can scale to fit virtually any transportation option, even the ones where piston engines are no longer an ideal fit, whether the application is too big (such as tanks, heavy construction and locomotives) or too small for a piston engine (scooters, mobility chairs and range extenders for small drones, for example). And the StewardTech Turbine is fuel agnostic as well, so it can be made to run on virtually any combustible fuel (including hydrogen).
      • Marine Transportation
        • Whatever your watercraft, the StewardTech Turbine can scale to power it. Whether an eFoil surfboard or a tanker ship, chances are good that there’s a StewardTech Turbine that can scale to your needs.
      • Air Transportation
        • For piston engine propeller planes, the StewardTech Turbine is simpler, more reliable, more compact and more efficient than aircraft piston engines. For turboprop and turbofan engines, the StewardTech Turbine represents a quieter, more efficient solution that also offers long life and ease of manufacture. The StewardTech Turbine can offer significant fuel savings in these applications. For electrically-powered flight craft (such as drones, air taxis and ultralight craft), the StewardTech Turbine offers significant weight savings by acting as a range extender and battery replacement. Used this way, the StewardTech Turbine is also far more energy dense and environmentally friendly than large batteries.
    • Renewable Energy Production
      • Wind Turbines
        • Both large-scale (for wind farms) and small-scale wind turbines (such as for houses, office buildings, off-grid cabins, or even for campers, hunters or fishermen) are a good fit for the StewardTech Turbine.
      • Tidal Turbines
        • The StewardTech Turbine, with its wide scalability and highly variable configuration, is also a great fit for tidal turbines. Additionally, it can be made directionally agnostic, so that it works no matter which way the current is moving.
    • Traditional Energy Production
      • Steam Turbines, Geothermal Turbines, Hydroelectric Turbines and even Nuclear Turbines could all benefit from upgrading to StewardTech Turbines. The StewardTech Turbine is more compact and energy dense than typical power plant turbines, meaning more power from a smaller footprint.
  • How Scalable Is the StewardTech Turbine?
    • The smallest StewardTech Turbine to date literally fits in the palm of your hand (see our picture gallery). We estimate that the largest StewardTech turbines could power ships or be the central power turbine for a whole electric plant.
  • What Can the StewardTech Turbine Do About Wind Turbine Graveyards?
    • Since large scale StewardTech turbines (including large scale wind turbines) are made from one of the most recyclable and recycled resources on the planet, wind turbine graveyards can become a thing of the past.
  • Have You Produced Successful Turbine Prototypes?
    • YES! In fact, we have produced both successful toy turbines, and speed tested a more traditional size turbine. In the latter, even though it was 3D printed in PLA plastic, it reached over 5000 RPMs with no discernable damage whatsoever. Further, at 5000 RPMs, the turbine only produced 92dB of noise (most of which was actually from the air nozzle), as opposed to the 140+ dB typical of most turbines. So it’s not just more efficient and resistant to damage, it’s quieter, too! See the test for yourself here.
  • Will You Be Manufacturing Turbines, Or Licensing the Technology to Manufacturers?
    • Both, actually. Initially, we will be focusing on Renewable Energy and toy turbines (that have generators, LEDs, and digital voltage displays), then moving up to portable generators and home units. We will also be licensing the technology to interested manufacturers at very attractive rates so we can get the turbines in as many hands as possible as quickly as possible.
